Green Light Teams were American special forces units during the peak of the Cold War, trained as Atomic Demolition Munitions Specialists. Their mission was to advance into enemy territory, arm, and deploy Special Atomic Demolition Munitions (SADM), compact, backpack-portable nuclear weapons developed by the United States.

In the war-ravaged landscape of central Europe, a Green Light Team is deployed near Warsaw, their mission veiled in secrecy. As they descend into enemy territory, a cruel twist of fate renders their most critical asset—a Special Atomic Demolition Munition—non-functional and unstable. Stranded with a nuclear weapon they cannot deploy, they face a grim dilemma: protect the SADM from enemy forces at all costs.

Survival becomes a relentless test of strategy and instinct as the team navigates the ruins of civilization, haunted by the ever-present threat of discovery. Every step a calculated risk, every decision a potential disaster. The Polish countryside, once serene and beautiful, now stands as a stark reminder of humanity's hubris, with dangers lurking in every shadow.

In this desolate theater of war, the stakes couldn't be higher. The team must rely on their wits, training, and each other as they strive to evade capture and ensure the SADM does not fall into enemy hands. Amidst the chaos, alliances will be tested, and the line between friend and foe will blur.

As days turn into weeks, the team’s endurance is pushed to its limits. Resources dwindle, and the cold, unforgiving landscape offers little respite. The physical and psychological hardships begin to take a toll on the team, as the relentless stress erodes their will. Trust is as fragile as the crumbling ruins around them. The true test of their resolve will come not only from their enemies, but from the inner demons they must confront within themselves.

Anthem of Ash is a harrowing tale of survival, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of duty against impossible odds. Can the team overcome the challenges that lie ahead, or will they become yet another tragic casualty in a world gone mad?

In the alternate history of Free League's Twilight: 2000 4th edition, the Soviet Union does not collapse in the early 1990s. Instead, hardline elements take control, leading to increased tensions and aggression by the Warsaw Pact in Europe. This escalation turns the Cold War hot, resulting in World War III by the mid-1990s. The conflict involves both conventional and limited nuclear warfare, devastating the infrastructure and economies of the warring nations and causing governments to collapse.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Europe where the remnants of military units and civilians struggle to survive. With traditional nation-states shattered, society has devolved into chaos and lawlessness. Players navigate a world of scarcity and constant danger, where small communities, warlords, and military remnants vie for power and resources amidst the ruins of the old world.

Anthem of Ash is a sandbox campaign that offers players the freedom to shape their own path rather than follow a set sequence of events. Set in war-torn Poland, this campaign utilizes detailed digital props like photographs, journals, letters, and audio recordings. Players, as part of a stranded military team, must navigate dangerous alliances and scarce resources, all while striving to survive and avert another potential nuclear disaster.

Our scheduled games are on Friday evenings from 8-11 PM CDT, every other week. Occasionally, we need to alter our schedule due to real-life conflicts, and we try to work around whatever solution allows for the majority of players to be present.

Our expectation is that the campaign will entail over one year of game time, with a schedule of gathering every other week.

We'll be using Alchemy VTT for character sheet management and dice rolling. Discord is required for voice communications; video is not.

During training, the instructors told us we had about 30 minutes to clear the blast radius of the device.

We never really believed that.

In every other mission, the team had an extraction plan. We didn't. That's why we never really thought we would get out alive.

It was a one-way mission. We were kamikaze pilots without airplanes.

The munition was 12 inches in diameter, 18 inches long, and weighed 70 pounds. It included the warhead, fusing and firing system with a mechanical timer, ferroelectric firing set, and a sealed housing.

The body was constructed with aluminum forgings and molded fiberglass, with rubber insulation used between the warhead and the case. The dials were illuminated with tritium-phosphor paint for easy night reading. A housing was provided which included external controls.

Extensive tables were provided to enable the selection of the correct yield for each particular target. These tables accounted for various employment particulars such as depth of burial, fallout considerations, and minimum safe separation distances between adjacent weapons and personnel.

Warning: The setting of Anthem of Ash deals with mature and sensitive themes, including drug use, violence, and the dehumanization of specific groups. Under no circumstances will violence of a sexual nature be directed towards the players or the characters they represent by any participant in this campaign. Graphic images will be marked with a <Spoiler> tag to allow for optional viewing. These images will not contain essential clues but are provided as an optional visual insight into the nature of the antagonists.
